II.                  My points
1.       A large majority of the population of the US is taking part in online social networking as seen in a study done this year.  [46% use social networking while 36% do not and 18% showed no interest.]**
a.       With such a high number of individuals involved, the ease of communication is increased and it provides another mode of communication.
2.       Personal information, if displayed properly can be easily accessible to friends and family.
a.       The owner of the social networking site is responsible for the information they make public and when it is presented properly it can be very useful.
b.       People can find birthdays, events, mutual friends, shared interest and connect with people and like Sean said earlier this can be done with people globally.

III.                Rebuttal
Al Quaeda and Facebook:
Bulimia and anorexia
Cyber Bullying
Time wasting
Privacy Settings
Pornography
Hacked Statuses
IV.                  Conclusion
We believe that social networking has many benefits that far out way the negative factors.  We would also like to note that the responsibility of the safety of the individuals is in their own hands and the social networks are completely optional.
In regard to social networking, we think you should side with the opposition and not reject social networks.

Evaluation of my mock job interview

My mock interview with Levi Davenport (Area Coordinator of the Men's Dorms) went really well!  I went in with the intent to apply for a job similar to his own which brought about good dialog.  I never felt tripped up by any questions and I was able to properly swing all the questions toward my benefit.  I was honest and passionate and I think that the interviewer saw this as well.  I went into the interview with eye-contact and open, and inviting non-verbal communication that showed that I was interested and passionate about the interview.  I carried eye contact and good body position throughout the whole interview.  I felt good at the end of the interview knowing that I was prepared and able to ask questions to show that I am passionate and interested about the position and the requirements of the position I was applying for.  Overall I was really prepared and I felt the difference between this interview and those I have had in the past where I was not prepared and I prefer the preparation.

Answers to three job interview questions

  • What are some of the things you do in your spare time?
    •      In my spare time I love to take pictures.  I have a camera that I use for taking abstract pictures of nature and cityscapes.  I love be artistic and creative and this is a way I can express that part of myself.
  • Do you prefer to work by yourself or with others?
    • I am extremely capable in both environments and can work well by myself with individual responsibilities, but what I really enoy is working in a group to accomplish a single goal.  I think that I can guide a group toward a goal and inspire communication and positive energy toward an idea or objective.
  • What are you long range career objectives?
    • My long range career objectives are always going to be working with people.  I am currently fine-tuning my education to best equip myself for this fact.  I would love to move on to working with college students and at a University.  I would love to work at Northwest University either in the dorms or with a student based campus ministry.  I have a passion for this aspect of the learning process we all undergo and would love to make a contribution to the college community

Transferable skills (based on Six Good Exercises)

After interacting with members of my group in class based on my life stories, I have developed a list of transferable skills that can be drawn out of my experiences:

Leadership, Compassion, Perseverance, Love, Passion, Integrity, Dependability, Teaching Ability, Consistency, Supporter, Team-Player, Understanding, Learner, hands-on, Care, Athletic, Technically Proficient, Intelligent, Servant, Spiritual, God-Fearing, and Loyal.

Life Experience #6

My sixth life story is about becoming an RA at Northwest University.  During my freshman year at Northwest I started to feel called toward a ministry role at Northwest.  At first I thought that that role was through ACTS the Northwest traveling drama group, but God closed that door for me and had something else in store.  Shortly after the door closed I became aware of the need for RA’s and I eagerly applied.  I went to meetings and interviews and got asked many questions about why I should be an RA.
Through being interviewed I became more confident that this was what God wanted me to do.  I felt at peace and confident that I could do this.  After a lot of waiting through the selection process I was informed that I had been selected.  I was so excited to get down to business, God’s business.  He had selected me for the position and given me a vision that he had for my role in his plan.  Through the role I have now as an RA I am able to interact with student and minister through love.

Life Experience #5

My fifth life story also involves my referee career.  Shortly after the regional tournament in Hawaii I was nominated as Young Referee of the Year and given the opportunity to be given the title this award holds.  I will let you know that I was not selected as the Young Referee of the Year, but through being nominated I learned a lot about myself and how people think about me.
Through being nominated I learned of a lot of people who think very highly of me and wanted to see me succeed.  I was put into a spotlight within the referee community and it forced me to become more professional and to grow into a better referee.  My mindset changed to become more professional and more aware of who I am and what I am doing.
I became more aware of myself through the nomination and I grew into a better referee and even though I did not win I became better at my job and gained respect from lots of people in the referee community
